Discover and Develop your Cultural Intelligence (CQ)

Unit outlines

Part 1 (facilitator-led, 3 hours):

This part explores the key elements of CQ as follows:

Unit 1: CQ Drive 

Identify your motivation and confidence to work effectively in culturally diverse settings. You will explore: 

  • Factors which support intrinsic and extrinsic interest in engagement with cross-cultural experiences.

 Unit 2: CQ Knowledge 

Gain an understanding about how cultures are similar and different, and how related understandings can help in cross-cultural contexts. You will explore: 

  • Cultural values and how culture shapes behaviour and communication.

 Unit 3: CQ Strategy 

Learn to plan for multicultural interactions. You will explore: 

  • Scenario planning for cross-cultural situations and strategies to check and adjust cultural assumptions.

 Unit 4: CQ Action 

Consider ways in which CQ can be put into practice with verbal and non-verbal actions. You will explore: 

  • Cross-cultural communication scenarios and ways of adapting behaviour across cultures.


 Part 2 (self-study, 2 hours):

This part allows delegates to assess their CQ and put theory in practice.

Unit 5: CQ Assessment 

Complete a standardised CQ assessment, designed and created by the Cultural Intelligence Centre to gain a more in-depth and benchmarked understanding of your own CQ. 

Unit 6: CQ Observations 

Document the observation of CQ in action from situations you identify in your workplace, social circles or through scenes you experience in media or books you are reading. 

 

Part 3 (facilitator-led, 1 hour):

In the complete version of this course, delegates will have the opportunity to meet with the course's facilitators and discuss their CQ assessment, as well as develop an action plan.

Unit 7: Debrief  

Take part in a detailed debriefing session with our certified CQC facilitators, and discuss ideas and concerns in relation to CQ.

Unit 8: Behavioural Preferences  

Explore the interplay between CQ and behavioural preferences. 

Unit 9: Action Plan 

Develop an action plan of how to best implement and leverage your CQ in a range of personal or professional contexts.
