School of English

Welcome to the School of English

95% student satisfaction (2012 National Student Survey), internationally recognised research (2008 Research Assessment Exercise) and award-winning creative writers (John Llewellyn Rhys prizewinner and Time Out ‘Book of the Year').

The School of English at the University Kent offers a welcoming and stimulating environment for study. Surrounded by centuries of literary history, and taught by literary experts in areas from the medieval to the postmodern, Kent offers a variety of specialist undergraduate and postgraduate programmes. At undergraduate level students can choose from a range of degree programmes including English and American Literature, Postcolonial Literature and Creative Writing. Students also have the opportunity to choose from a broad range of modules which allow you the opportunity to choose your own path and study to your strengths and interests. Our taught and research postgraduate programmes offer more specialist study supported by academics with track records in world-leading research. Much of the research within the school is organised around our five Research Centres (and other interdisciplinary centres across the university) and which represent the broad mix of specialisms and strengths.
