Darwin 200 Celebrations

In 2009 the University celebrates Charles Darwin’s 200th birthday. Darwin’s work transformed the way we view our world and the way we study it, as well as proving controversial to religious organisations both in his time and now. Public lectures, a traditional birthday party and film festivals are just some of the Darwin Events of this anniversary year that will celebrate his work, and showcase Kent’s commitment to his immense intellectual legacy.

Welcome to our web pages

The School was founded in 1970 on the principle that there is much to be gained through exploiting multidisciplinary approaches in our research and teaching. World class research facilities coupled with significant year-on-year increases in competitive research funding from a range of national and international agencies, provide the infrastructure to support our researchers. Our undergraduate teaching in the areas of biochemistry, biomedical science and biology is research-led and benefits from the research expertise and standing of our academic staff, covering the full spectrum of modern organismal, cell and molecular biosciences. Our MSc and PhD programmes provide the high quality training that ensures our students can pursue careers in scientific research at the highest level.  With successes in translating the research output and training to the pharmaceutical and clinical sectors and in attracting young world class researchers to start their careers here, the School provides a dynamic environment in which to learn about modern biosciences and to undertake internationally recognised and cutting edge research.
