Medway Bus Services (Arriva)

 

The University works with Arriva bus company to provide discounted bus travel and make bus travel easier, in line with the University's Travel Plans. The discounted tickets are available for students and staff at Medway and Canterbury campuses.

From April 2020, the process of purchasing these tickets is changing. You no longer need the promotional code. Click here to find out more. Please note the instructions state to visit GK Unions but during this current time of the University being closed you will need to:

1. eMail talktous@arriva.co.uk from your University email address

2. State your full name, postal address and confirmation of being either a member of staff or a student.

Prices and how to purchase discounted bus tickets

Arriva student discounted tickets

The best value ticket for students is the Arriva student annual discounted ticket which allows unlimited travel on any Arriva bus across Medway, Kent and East Sussex. This discount is exclusive to the Universities at Medway. The student annual ticket works out as only 43p per day!

Single journey tickets can be purchased on the bus. Weekly, Four week, 12 week and 52 week tickets are purchased through the Arriva website using the promotional code found on our website

Arriva Staff discounted tickets

The best value ticket for staff is the Arriva staff annual discounted ticket which allows unlimited travel on any Arriva bus across Medway, Kent and East Sussex. This discount is exclusive to the Universities at Medway. The staff annual ticket works out as only 90p per day!

Purchasing Arriva discounted tickets

  1. Collect your smartcard from the student union. During this time with the University being closed please see the steps above. You will also need to activate your smartcard here.
  2. Follow the instructions to create a new account, using your student/staff email address to access the discounted tickets (If you do not recieve an activation email check your junk folder).
  3. Log in with your new account and click 'Add an existing card'.
  4. Enter the long card number from the back of your new smartcard, then follow instructions to submit.
  5. To add a ticket, click on the smartcard in your account. Choose the ticket you would like (Student Weekly, Student 4-Weekly, Academic Year, Staff Weekly or 4-Weekly) and add to basket. This will be added at the discounted rate.
  6. Follow the instructions to make your payment. Please note, leave 48 hours between purchasing a ticket and using on an Arriva bus.
  7. The ticket will be valid from the day it is used on the bus for the first time.

Take this bus if you want to travel between Liberty Quays residences and the Dockyard or Pembroke campus.

Chatham - St George’s Centre - Western Avenue – New Kent Road - GillinghamMedway Maritime Hospital- Tesco- Parkwood or Wigmore - Hempstead Valley

Take the 116 to get onto campus, to the hospital or to go shopping at Hempstead Valley shopping centre. The 116 goes through the campus, stopping at New Kent Road bus stop.

100 - Chatham Station

Catch the 100 bus for easy access to and from Chatham station. You can take the 700 bus from Chatham station to get to Bluewater shopping centre.

Jump on the 101 for shopping in Maidstone. This bus also goes to Chatham station and Maidstone East station.

190 - Dockside Outlet

Gravesend - Strood - Rochester - Chatham - St George’s Centre - Dockside Outlet

Take this bus to get to campus or to the Dockside Outlet shopping centre. This bus also takes you to Chatham station.

  • Western Avenue - Next to the Broad Walk path which leads directly to the Historic Dockyard.
