Sustainable Campus

Our buildings and facilities are one of the most visible aspects of our commitment to sustainability. Our campus is dynamic and we are developing, managing and operating our estate to reduce the impact of our activities on the environment and to create resilient spaces that can adapt to the impacts of a changing climate.

Buildings

We are improving the sustainability of our built estate in a number of ways. All new buildings and refurbishments use our own in-house sustainability assessment toolkit to ensure sustainability is embedded from the outset. We regularly review how our buildings are performing, improving our understanding of how the spaces are used, so that we can ensure they are operating as efficiently as possible.

Water

The University is committed to reducing its water consumption; we are working across the Estate, looking at everything from our water supply, wastewater provision, fixtures and fittings to achieve this. Find out how the Commercial Services & Estates department are managing water and read our Water Management Strategy by following the link below.

Preventing Pollution

As well as identifying and minimising our risks to the environment, we also ensure that we are prepared for any environmental emergencies such as spills of hazardous materials. Key staff are trained in emergency spill response and we have developed a spill response procedure detailing the steps we take to deal with incidents.

Climate Risk

The University has a Climate Change Risk and Adaptation plan which sets out its responsibilities and approach towards managing risks and opportunities arising from climate change.
