Blackboard Ally at the University of Kent
What is Blackboard Ally?
Blackboard Ally is a plugin within the Moodle environment. Ally uses machine learning algorithms to automatically provide alternative formats for course content, giving students immediate access to more accessible alternatives, such as HTML, audio, ePub, electronic Braille and tagged PDF.
Ally is designed to help Schools gain greater insight into the accessibility of their digital course content and enables us to provide all students with immediate access to content in a range of formats that may be more suited to their specific needs.
It is hoped that a year-long pilot of the technology will be of benefit to all students in the participating Schools and act as a mechanism for making course materials more accessible. This is in keeping with the requirements of Kent Inclusive Practices (KIPs) which create guidelines for accessible information at the University.
