Julie Gooderick obtained her first degree in Sports Therapy in 2005, and her MSc in Strength and Conditioning in 2011. She has over 15 years of experience working in the field of elite sport, in both Sports Therapy and Strength and Conditioning roles, supporting athletes to two Olympic Games and working within a wide range of sports.
Julie is currently completing her PhD, investigating female athlete sleep habits, and the effects of sleep hygiene on performance; work which she has presented at national conferences. She is also a board director for the UK Strength and Conditioning Association.
Julie joined the School of Sport and Exercise Sciences in 2023. Outside the department, she regularly consults with several professional athletes including Premier League and WSL footballers, focusing on sleep, rehabilitation, and performance.
Julie’s research interests lie primarily around the interactions between sleep and performance, the effects of sleep hygiene on performance, and investigations around the specifics of female athlete sleep.
She has additional research interest around post-partum rehabilitation and return to play protocols surrounding this.
