Research excellence at the University of Kent

Research impact case studies

The Research Excellence Framework (REF) is an independent survey of UK universities that rates the research, the impact that it has, and the general research environment.

  • Based on our excellent results in the REF, Kent was ranked joint 17th (out of 122 multi-faculty universities) in the UK for research intensity by the Times Higher Education (THE).
  • In terms of research intensity, we outperformed 11 of the 24 Russell Group universities.
  • As testament to our position as the UK’s European university, Kent is ranked 1st for the quality of its research in modern languages.
