Dr Elmira Satybaldieva

University of Kent

Dr Elmira Satybaldieva is a research fellow at CARC, University of Kent. She completed her doctoral thesis on everyday politics in Kyrgyzstan at the School of Politics and International Relations, University of Kent in 2010. She was a research fellow at the Karelian Institute, University of Eastern Finland and a visiting fellow at the Davis Center for Russian and Eurasian Studies, Harvard University.

Her main area of research interest is state-society relations in the post-Soviet space, with a particular focus on how social inequalities shape the nature of the state, individual’s identities, political practices, and communal tensions in Central Asia. In addition, in the last few years, she has examined the role of EU and other international agencies in pursuing development and conflict prevention in Central Asia.

Her research has resulted in publications in several journals, including the Europe-Asia StudiesCambridge Journal of Economics andInternational Journal of Sociology and Social Policy. She in the process of preparing a couple of manuscripts.
