About

John joined the University of Kent in 2025 as Chief Operating Officer and was subsequently also appointed to the role of University Secretary and is now the University's Chief Operating Officer and University Secretary, with strategic responsibility for the delivery of key Professional Services that support the University's operations, governance and long-term strategic objectives.

As University Secretary, John leads the University's governance framework, ensuring effective corporate governance, regulatory compliance and support for the University's governing bodies.

As the Executive Group lead for sustainability, John has overall responsibility for the University's sustainability strategy and the delivery of its commitments under the Sustainable Development Goals Education Accord. He chairs the University's Sustainability Steering Group, which oversees the University's environmental management system, including ISO 14001 certification, and provides strategic leadership for embedding sustainability across the institution.

Working collaboratively with colleagues across the University, John champions the integration of sustainability into decision-making, operations and governance, helping to ensure environmental, social and economic sustainability are embedded throughout the University's activities and future development.
