Japanese Workshop Programme

Japanese workshops will be held in CNW seminar room 2 each Wednesday at 1pm and 2pm.

Week 11: 15th October 2025

1pm - Tips for Your Conversation in Japanese

Would you like to talk in Japanese? Do you want to know about some tips to improve your conversation in Japanese? Please join the session! After a quick lecture about the tips, you will practice introducing each other in Japanese, depending on your level.

Level: A0- C2. Everyone is welcome. Beginners will be supported by a teacher while upper level learners can talk to Japanese natives.

2pm - Verb Conjugations & Kyoto Dialect

Japanese language has a lot of dialects. The dialect of Kansai area is especially well-known and you often hear them in Anime, films, TV dramas, etc. In the session, we will check your understanding of Japanese verb conjugations, depending on your level, and try changing a conversation in the standard Japanese to Kyoto dialect.

Level: A1- C2. Anyone who knows the most basic 4 conjugations of verbs (non-past, past, affirmative and negative) is suitable for the session.

Week 12: 22nd October 2025 

1pm – Japanese Music (for Beginners) 

Let’s talk about Japanese music in Japanese. We will check basic vocabulary and grammatical contents, and practice a conversation in very basic Japanese. 

Level: A0-A1. This session is for complete beginners to elementary level learners. 

2pm - Japanese Music (for Upper levels) 

How much can you explain about your favourite Japanese artist in Japanese? Why do you like them? After checking the vocabulary and phrases for the topic, you will talk about the music in Japanese. 

Level: A2-C2. This session is for upper level learners. Pre-intermediate and Intermediate & Advanced students will be in separate groups to practice a conversation. 

Week 13: 29th October 2025 

1pm - Manga & Anime (for Beginners) 

Do you like Manga and/or Anime? What kind of Manga / Anime do you like? We will check basic vocabulary and grammatical contents, and practice a conversation in very basic Japanese. 

Level: A0-A1. This session is for complete beginners to elementary level learners. 

2pm – Manga & Anime (for Upper levels) 

What kind of Manga and/or Anime do you like? Can you explain the story? Why do you like it? After checking the vocabulary and phrases for the topic, you will talk about your favourite Manga / Anime deeply in Japanese! 

Level: A2-C2. This session is for upper level learners. Pre-intermediate and Intermediate & Advanced students will be in separate groups to practice a conversation. 

Week 14: Reading Week – no classes 


Week 15: 12th November 2025 

1pm - Telling Your Story: The Past (for Beginners) 

What did you do yesterday? How about last weekend, or last summer? Let’s learn how to express things happened in the past in basic Japanese. We will check basic vocabulary and grammatical contents, and practice a conversation in very basic Japanese. 

Level: A0-A1. This session is for complete beginners to elementary level learners. 

2pm - Telling Your Story: The Past (for Upper levels) 

Have you had any interesting experiences before? Or anything funny or scary? Let’s practice telling your story happened in the past. You will practice how to expand the story, explain your emotions and expressions, depending on your level. 

Level: A2-C2. This session is for upper level learners. Pre-intermediate and Intermediate & Advanced students will be in separate groups to practice a conversation. 

Week 16: 19th November 2025 

1pm - Japanese Film & TV dramas (for Beginners) 

Have you watched any Japanese films and/or TV dramas? Was it good or bad? What is your favourite one? Do you have any favourite Japanese actor/actress? We will check basic vocabulary and grammatical contents, and practice a conversation in basic Japanese. 

Level: A0-A1. This session is for complete beginners to elementary level learners. 

2pm - Japanese Film & TV dramas (for Upper levels) 

Japanese films (and TV dramas) are getting more available and popular internationally. But how much vocabulary used to explain about films do you know? Can you explain the story of the film you watched in Japanese? Let’s check the vocabulary and talk about Japanese films. 

Level: A2-C2. This session is for upper level learners. Pre-intermediate and Intermediate & Advanced students will be in separate groups to practice a conversation. 

Week 17: 26th November 2025 

1pm - Music Lyric (for Beginners) 

Many people start learning Japanese because they love Japanese music. But, it’s not easy for beginners to understand the meanings of the Japanese songs because they use a casual speech style while you’re learning a polite speech style. So, let’s see how much you can understand a Japanese music, and sing it! 

Level: A0-A1. This session is for complete beginners to elementary level learners. 

2pm - Music Lyric (for Upper levels) 

Do you know the meaning of the lyric of your favourite Japanese song? Let’s translate, understand them at an authentic level (by using the support by a teacher), and why don’t we sing it in Japanese?! 

Level: A2-C2. This session is for upper level learners. Pre-intermediate and Intermediate & Advanced students will be in separate groups to practice a conversation. 

Week 18: 3rd December 2025 

1pm - Winter Holiday (for Beginners) 

Have you got any plan in the winter holiday? Let’s talk about it in Japanese. We will check basic vocabulary and grammatical contents, and practice a conversation in basic Japanese. As the festive season is coming, let’s do a festive quiz on Japanese Christmas & New Years traditions, and songs (?) as well! 

Level: A0-A1. This session is for complete beginners to elementary level learners. 

2pm - Winter Holiday (for Upper levels) 

We will finish the term with talking about your plan in the winter holiday, and Christmas & New Years in Japan, the UK and your country if you’re an international student, in Japanese! And, why don’t we do a special festive quiz for upper level students?! 

Level: A2-C2. This session is for upper level learners. Pre-intermediate and Intermediate & Advanced students will be in separate groups to practice a conversation.
