Docking Station’s Community Engagement Strategy sets out our commitment to building meaningful relationships with the people, organisations and communities of Medway. As we develop Docking Station ahead of its opening in late 2026, this strategy ensures that local voices, histories and creativity are central to shaping both the site and its future programme.
Rooted in collaboration, co-creation and inclusivity, our approach connects heritage, digital innovation and community participation. Through partnerships with cultural organisations, educators and community groups, we aim to widen access, build skills and create opportunities for people to actively contribute to the interpretation and use of the Docking station historic spaces.
This engagement programme establishes strong foundations for long-term participation, ensuring Docking Station opens not simply as a venue, but as a shared cultural resource shaped by and for its community.
We work with diverse community groups to ensure the Docking Station reflects the voices, histories and experiences of local people.
We collaborate with residents, creatives and heritage organisations to produce interpretation, exhibitions and digital content.
We provide digital tools, training and creative opportunities that reduce barriers to participation.
We establish strong community relationships and participation pathways that will sustain long-term engagement.
We work with community participants to research and interpret the Police Section House, built in the 1860s as a boarding house. The building is listed and a scheduled ancient monument within the Dockyard grounds.
