Academic and research community
As a forward-thinking research institution we are committed to the transformative power of education and research, and to the development of our students and staff.
Research Excellence Framework (REF) 2014
Kent was judged to have world-leading research in all subjects submitted in the REF 2014
The Research Excellence Framework (REF) 2014 showed that:
Kent is 17th in the UK for research intensity, taking into account the proportion of research staff submitted.
97% of our research is of international quality, up from 87% in 2008.
Our score for ‘research power’ increased by 59%, the third largest increase of the top 50 research-intensive universities.
Contributing to Kent’s REF success were:
The number of our world-class publications
The number of research-active staff (up by 40% since 2008)
The demonstrable impact our research has made to the sciences and to economic, social and cultural understanding
The REF also endorsed Kent’s research community: all our academic schools provide an environment that is conducive to research of international excellence.
