Mary McNulty
Mary was working as an actor and director, creating new work before being drawn into Sam Wanamaker’s Shakespeare’s Globe project. She was initially a member of the Theatre Advisory Committee, then part of a small team developing the ethos and practice of the Education Department, latterly as Senior Learning Consultant. She continues to offer occasional workshops and training there.
Mary lives in Whitstable and began teaching at Kent while completing a Research MA: The Cultural Positioning of Shakespeare’s Globe from Wanamaker to Rylance, which documents her first-hand experience of the Globe project.
Her play Marlowe v Marlowe sends Raymond Chandler’s private detective Philip Marlowe back in time to investigate the mysterious death of his namesake Christopher Marlowe (Chandler’s old school Dulwich College was founded by Elizabethan actor Edward Alleyn, who created the lead roles in Marlowe’s plays).
Mary's research focuses on Shakespeare and Early Modern performance.
Mary currently lectures in Drama, Theatre and the Performing Arts, specialising in Shakespeare, Acting and Popular Performance.
Mary is a Licentiate of the Royal Academy of Music as a Voice teacher.
