Art History

For over 20 years the University of Kent has provided innovative and interdisciplinary teaching in the visual arts. Art History at Kent has a strong reputation for research in the fields of art history, philosophy of art and aesthetics, which is reflected in the teaching quality of our degree programmes. Art History at Kent scored 100% for overall satisfaction in the 2021 National Student Survey.

Have you ever wondered what's involved in curating an art exhibition? Would you like to work in an art gallery, museum or archive? Our degrees give you the opportunity to put your knowledge into practice and develop work-related skills that prepare you for a career in the arts.

Study artists in a global context, art movements and a range of artistic media, including painting, sculpture, print media, installation and multimedia. Our close ties with the drama, film, music and architecture departments give you the opportunity to work and socialise with students from other creative subjects.

Professional opportunities and support

A distinctive feature of our programmes is the chance to get involved in the creative arts industries. Why not develop your curatorial skills in the Studio 3 Gallery or get involved the acquisition of art works for the Kent Print Collection? You can also extend your degree programme by a year with a work placement or studying abroad at another university in Europe or the US.

We have an excellent team of academic staff to help you realise your potential. As an undergraduate student, you can meet regularly with an academic adviser who offers pastoral support and prepares you for a diverse range of careers.
