Travelling to the campus

If you’re coming by car, the postcode for your sat nav is CT2 7NZ. You can park free of charge in Giles Lane car park. Student ambassadors will be located near to the car park and around the campus to help you get to your registration location. They will be holding large ‘Can I help you?’ signs, so you can ask them questions, and they will help you find your way.

The route is mostly flat and accessible. If you have any mobility needs or would like additional support getting from the car park to your registration location, please let us know in advance. You can email us at offerholderdays@kent.ac.uk or call our team on 01227 824654.

You can view buildings and specific rooms/lecture theatres in advance by visiting Kent maps.

Moving between activities

You will not need to find your way around campus on your own. A member of staff or student ambassador will guide your group and take you to each activity during the day, including subject activities, tours, and Q&A sessions. This means you can simply follow the group, and you do not need to worry about getting lost.

If you decide to take a break or leave an activity early, staff will be available to help you find your way to the next session when you are ready.

The structure of the day

The day is split into a morning and afternoon session. You will register when you arrive and then spend the morning with your academic school, with activities focussed on your subject. These can include a welcome talk, subject activities, facilities tours and a question and answer (Q&A) session. We would recommend attending all these activities if you can.

The afternoon is for more general activities. These include tours of the campus, accommodation tours, the opportunity to meet the Kent support teams and to attend a presentation and Q&A. You can attend as many or as few of these activities as feel right for you.

Your timetable

You can find the timetables for the event on our Attending an Offer Holder Day web page.

There is a General Programme and links to each Subject Programme. To view your Subject Programme, hover on your subject area on the web page and then click on the on ‘Your timetable’ button.

This next section explains the different elements of the general and subject programmes to help you prepare for your day, so you feel comfortable about what each activity entails.

Morning activities

You will receive an email from us on the morning of your visit. This email will have your registration location and a QR code. You will need to show the QR code to a member of our team when you arrive. They will scan it with a mobile phone, which will log you as having attended. You will also be given a free lunch voucher once you have been scanned in.

This talk normally lasts around 20 - 30 minutes.

The day usually begins with a short welcome talk in a lecture theatre or large room by an academic member of staff. There may be slides and microphones used so everyone can see and hear clearly. There is no expectation to contribute - the member of staff will normally introduce themselves; they may also talk briefly about the academic school and give an overview of the day.

These activities normally last around 30 - 45 minutes.

Subject activities give you the chance to experience what studying your subject might be like. These sessions are usually led by academic staff and may include a short lecture, discussion, or small activity related to the course. Some sessions are interactive, but you will not be expected to speak or contribute unless you feel comfortable doing so, and listening is fine.

There will be opportunities to ask questions during and after the subject activities. You can ask questions aloud or simply listen to the information shared with the group. If you have a parent or supporter with you, they can also ask questions if they would like to.

Some academic schools may have scheduled activities that are just for applicants, and some activities that are just for parents. If you do not feel comfortable being separated, there is no expectation to attend the separate session, and you can remain together.

Afternoon activities

Lunch will be provided for you and any guests attending the day with you. When you register and have your QR code scanned, you will be given one lunch voucher per person.
Lunch will be a BBQ served outdoors on campus (weather permitting). The BBQ locations will be outside the following buildings:

  • The Gulbenkian Café
  • Sports Centre
  • K Bar at Keynes College
  • Sibson building

Food will be prepared by our catering team, and you will be able to choose from a small selection of options. There may be a short queue while food is being served. You will need to give the team your voucher when it is your turn to be served.

As the BBQ is outdoors, there may be food smells, background noise and other visitors nearby. There will be seating available close to the BBQ area, and you are welcome to take your time when eating. If you would prefer a quieter space, you are also welcome to take your food and eat elsewhere on campus.

If it is raining, our catering teams will bring the food indoors. Locations for the BBQ in case of wet or bad weather will vary per event. All members of staff and student ambassadors will be aware of the locations on the day of the event and will be able to help you find the way to the relevant buildings.

If you have any dietary requirements or allergies, please speak to a member of staff or our catering team on the day and they will be happy to help.

The tours will start at 12:00. They will depart from the front of the Templeman Library and run approximately every ten minutes. The tour usually lasts around 30 - 45 minutes.

These are guided walks around the campus led by student ambassadors. The tours help you see important locations such as teaching spaces, study areas, and include visits to accommodation. Accommodation visits allow you to see examples of student rooms and shared spaces. Viewing accommodation may involve walking between buildings and may include stairs or using a lift.

There will be a small tent outside the front of the library where you can ask to join a tour. There will be several student ambassador tour guides in Kent t-shirts or hoodies, and a desk where you can speak to the tour co-ordinator. The tour coordinator will introduce the student ambassador who will be leading your tour and will explain what you will see on the tour.

We usually keep the tour groups to a maximum of three families, so the group may include other applicants and their guests. If you would feel more comfortable having a tour for just you and your guests, please mention this to the tour co-ordinator and they will arrange this for you. If you prefer not to join a tour, you are welcome to explore the campus at your own pace.

You can walk around and speak to staff if there is something you would like to ask or simply look at the information available. There is no expectation to speak with every team.

If you have a parent or supporter with you, they can also ask questions if they would like to.
