University of Kent applications for AHRC funding are under the AHRC's Block Grant Partnership (BGP) Competition whereby universities are allocated a specific number of awards for certain subjects.
The University of Kent has been allocated BGPs for the 2012-13 academic year as set out below:

School of English
University of Kent applications for AHRC funding are under the AHRC's Block Grant Partnership (BGP) Competition whereby universities are allocated a specific number of awards for certain subjects.
The School of English has been allocated the following BGPs for the 2012-13 academic year:
2 Doctoral
1 Research Preparation Masters
Please consult page 64 of the AHRC’s Guide to Student Funding to determine whether you would be eligible to apply.
Candidates who wish to be considered for an AHRC BGP award must:
(1) Approach the School of English in the first instance:
Dr David Herd, PhD Director, or
Dr Sarah Wood, Director of Graduate Studies, or
Prof Peter Brown, Head of School
(2) Have received an offer of a place to study at the University of Kent. Applications to the University can be made online.
For AHRC Doctoral awards, candidates must:
- Have received an offer of a place to study for a PhD at the University of Kent. Applications can be made online.
- Submit a research proposal. Research proposals should be discussed with the School Director of Graduate Studies / Director of Research.
- Supply two academic references. These should be as specific and as detailed as possible so candidates should ask their referees to provide as much information about their academic achievements at either BA or MA level (whichever is relevant) which includes details of their relative position within their cohort and details of their performance on individual courses/modules.
The application deadline for AHRC Doctoral awards in the School of English is Wednesday 29 February 2012.
For AHRC Master's awards, candidates must:
- Have received an offer of a place to study at the University of Kent. Applications can be made online.
- Have achieved a first class undergraduate degree.
- Prepare a statement of research interests and ambitions. These should be discussed with the Director of Graduate Studies.
- Provide a piece of written work.
- Supply two academic references. These should be as specific and as detailed as possible so candidates should ask their referees to provide as much information about their academic achievements at BA level which includes details of their relative position within their cohort and details of their performance on individual courses/modules.
The application deadline for AHRC Masters awards in the School of English is Friday 30 March 2012.
