Dr Dardanelli specialises on European politics and the comparative study of statehood, federalism, nationalism, and democracy. His research aims to deepen our understanding of the dynamics of formation, change and dissolution of political systems, linking theoretical development and empirical investigation. He is particularly interested in changes in the distribution of power between states, sub-state regions and supra-state entities and their connections with patterns of national identity and the practice of democracy. Dr Dardanelli is the author of Between Two Unions: Europeanisation and Scottish Devolution and of articles in Political Studies, Acta Politica, Party Politics, Regional and Federal Studies, Nations and Nationalism, Local Government Studies, the Swiss Political Science Review and the Österreichische Zeitschrift für Politikwissenschaft. He is a member of the editorial board of Regional and Federal Studies, the co-editor of Routledge’s Federal Studies series, and a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy. At Kent, he is the deputy director of the Centre for Federal Studies and the co-convener of the School’s Comparative Politics research group.
