Research Seminar - The Art of Purchasing and How it adds value to companiesMore Information Speaker –Frederiek Chatfield, Peek Consultancy Frederiek Chatfield is a supply chain expert with more than 15 years of experience. Frederiek works with all sizes of organisation to analyse, develop and implement successful supply chain strategies and to enhance supply chain management capabilities.
Frederiek has worked on both sides of the supply chain fence – as a senior manager within a multinational FMCG company (Procter & Gamble) and as an internal and external consultant. This experience gives Frederiek a practical understanding of an organisation’s goals and the management of change.
As a supply chain manager manager, Frederiek has led and developed teams in the area of purchasing, manufacturing and material and production planning. She is renowned for breakthrough work in the area of inventory reduction and supplier development and collaboration. Currently Frederiek works as a consultant/trainer/coach, to help organisations to design their supply chains into value chains that drive business growth via operational and innovation excellence. She also works with the not-for-profit and public sector in the development of strategies to increase performance.
Seminar SynopsisThis seminar will explain what the role of Purchasing is in an organisation and its value chain. You will find out what good Purchasing practises consist of and how Purchasing can add value to a company and its value chain. It also discusses skills necessary to be successful in supplier relationships in the 21st century. The seminar is presented by an experienced ex-buyer and is filled with real life examples from the front line of business in the FMCG industry. |

Who's more important, the consumer or the shopper?Seminar open to all Kent Business School students and staff More information... Speaker: Vanessa Brown, Dynamic Reasoning Vanessa Brown, Managing Director of Dynamic Reasoning has a strong background in sales and marketing having previously worked for Pepsi and Nestle, ultimately heading up their ambient food business. Dynamic Reasoning has been successfully helping a broad range of food and drink businesses to achieve profitable sales growth since 2005. As one of Kent Business School's partners in the dunnhumby scheme for small food producers, Dynamic Reasoning is committed to helping companies use insight to add value for all stakeholders. Seminar SynopsisIt is well understood that people have to buy before they consume. As a result FMCG companies and multiple retailers dedicate significant resources (man power as well as financial) in the pursuit of shopper marketing, encouraging more shoppers to buy more, and more often. But is this necessarily resulting in increased sales for both parties in the long term? You only have to look at the long list of categories in decline to realise it's not always that effective. So who should these brand owners or brand facilitators be focusing their efforts on, is it the shopper or the sometimes forgotten consumer? |

Research Seminar - Akbar's multiculturalism: lessons for diversity managment in the 21st centuryMore information... Seminar Open to Staff and Students
Speaker Dr Jawad Syed is a Senior Lecturer in Human Resource Management at Kent Business School, University of Kent, UK. His main academic interests include gender and diversity in organisations, international HRM, strategic HRM and organisational knowledge.
Seminar Synopsis This seminar is based on one of my conceptual papers on theorizing diversity management in the 21st century. In this paper, I challenge the hegemony of US-centric perspectives in the diversity management literature by explaining how non-Western histories and cultures may provide alternative contexts for understanding and managing diversity. In pursuit of this, I describe how a Muslim ruler, Jalaluddin Muhammad Akbar, conceptualized multiculturalism in the 16th century India, and how his principles of sulh-i-kul, rah-i-aql, and rawa-i-rozi may be adopted to develop a socio-political environment conducive to managing cultural diversity in organizations, an environment which is currently lacking even in the majority of democratic countries in the world today. |
