Mark is from Jersey in the Channel Islands. He has a PhD in Development Studies from the University of East Anglia (UEA), Norwich. In 1993 he joined Portsmouth University's Business School where he lectured for seven years. In 2000 he moved to the School of Management at the University of Surrey. Mark joined Kent Business School in January 2005.
He has two main research interests that are often both found in small islands and coastal areas: tourism and offshore financial services. He has given papers at over 60 international conferences, has written around 30 journal papers and book chapters, and has written/edited two books. He is a Founding Member and Treasurer of ISISA (the International Small Islands Studies Association). He is a Fellow of the Royal Geographical Society.
About Dr Janet Haddock-Fraser
Janet is a Senior Lecturer in the School, and has wide-ranging experience (IBM, Copopers & Lybrand) and knowledge both of business and environmental management. Building on her degree in Geography at Oxford, she undertook her MSc in Environmental Management and MBA, before completing her PhD at the University of Hong Kong in 1999 in International Trade and the Environment. She has worked on sustainability issues in a variety of guises since the mid-1990s, with research particularly relating to the balance of economic/social with environmental impact, within commercial development. She is a member of the research team investigating the sustainable development impacts and drivers of dive tourism in Malaysia through CENTICA, as well as co-supervising with Dr Mark Hampton the following PhD student: Caroline Walsh
