Kent Business School Professor elected as Academician for the Academy of Social Sciences.

Kent Business School's Director of Research, Professor John Mingers has been  elected as an Academician for the prestigious Academy of Social Sciences.  The Academy of Social Sciences, which is the voice of the social sciences in the UK for the public benefit, has today announced the conferment of the award of Academician of the Academy of Social Sciences on 64 new Academicians, drawn from right across the social science spectrum. The award is for making a significant contribution to the social sciences and is by nomination and peer group review. Speaking about the conferment, the Chair of Council, Professor Cary Cooper CBE AcSS, said: “I am delighted that we are able to confer the award on such a significant number of distinguished new Academicians. The social sciences have a vital contribution to make towards some of the big issues facing society today, such as sustainability, crime, communities and individual fulfilment and well-being.  Conferment of the award will give confidence that the contributions made by Academicians to knowledge production and transfer are well founded, because that are based on rigorous peer group review of the available evidence.” John Mingers is Professor of Operational Research and Systems and member of the Management Science Group and the applied research centre "Centre for the Evaluation of Research Performance" (CERP)  He lectures the modules "Managing Complexity" on the MBA and MSc programmes and currently supervises five Phd students.  He is author of several publications including the book  Realising Systems Thinking: Knowledge and Action in Management Science. (Springer, 13 Jul 2006)

I would like to congratulate John on his election to the Academy.  It is an honour for us as a Business School to know that one of our colleagues has gained public recognition of the impact of their knowledge on society. It reflects our desire as a Business School to play a significant role in the dissemination of knowledge for the benefit of our wider community.
