About

Phil is the Head of Technical Services, leading the University’s technical workforce and ensuring high‑quality services that support teaching and research across the campus. He fosters a cohesive, skilled and future‑ready technical community that underpins the University’s academic and research excellence.

As the University’s Head of Profession for Technical Services, Phil guides the strategic development of technical provision, supports the delivery of Kent's Technician Commitment and strengthens collaboration across academic divisions and professional services.

Phil has worked in education for over 30 years across Secondary, Further and Higher Education, holding roles in teaching, educational technology and technical services. Over half of this time has been spent in technical services management, with experience across both the sciences and the arts. He began his career as an apprentice engineer.

Phil holds a physics degree from the Open University, an MA in Educational Technology and, more recently, an MSc by Research.
