About

Daniel Knox graduated from the University of Kent with a First Class BSc in Computer Science, followed by a PhD in the same field. His career has been rooted in higher education, with extensive experience supporting teaching, research, and technical infrastructure across complex institutional environments.

Daniel now serves as Assistant Director of IT (Infrastructure and Cyber Security). He is responsible for strategic delivery, service resilience, architecture, risk management, and the development of high-performing teams, aligning operational delivery with institutional priorities. He manages a multidisciplinary function spanning infrastructure platforms, networks, endpoint services, and cyber security.

Earlier in his career, Daniel progressed through technical and management roles within Technical Services, representing the profession at institutional level as Head of Profession. A notable achievement was securing and embedding structured funding for training and knowledge exchange for technical staff, alongside practical measures to remove structural barriers to participation.

During the Covid-19 pandemic, Daniel collaborated with technical colleagues to produce equipment for frontline workers. For this work, he and his colleagues were awarded the Papin Prize.

Daniel remains a committed advocate of the Technician Commitment, supporting initiatives that strengthen visibility, professional recognition, career development, and long-term sustainability for technical professionals within higher education and research.
