World Mental Health Day 2022 roundup

10 October was World Mental Health Day and we came together in our Kent communities to strengthen our wellbeing and find out more about support.

Hundreds of us from the Kent community gathered across the Canterbury and Medway campuses to be together to celebrate World Mental Health Day and find new ways to support our wellbeing.

Canterbury

On the Canterbury campus, students and staff met under the stretch tent outside the Templeman Library and enjoyed free hot drinks and biscuits, and some spent time doing some mindful colouring, or sharing their ‘5 a day for mental health’ – things we do to boost our wellbeing and recommend to others.

This was a great chance for those from across the community of students and staff at Kent to cross paths, taking a break between seminars, lectures, workshops and meetings, and find out more about support services available to them. We came for the free mugs, and stayed for the community atmosphere!

Medway

Events in Medway were spread across several different locations. In Drill Hall library, therapy dogs and wellbeing collaging offered us a chance to destress and get creative whilst exploring what we can do to support our wellbeing.

Elsewhere, in The Hub, free massages and manicures were on offer to encourage us to take time out for relaxation and self-care. And in Pilkington, the Wellbeing Fair was packed with different support teams from the universities at Medway as well as local mental health charities.

A key focus of the day was to draw attention to the many opportunities available at Kent through which you can boost your wellbeing, whether you’re here to work or study, whether you’ve just joined or have been here for years.
