Social Policy, Sociology and Social Research

Making sense of the social world

The School offers a range of postgraduate taught and research programmes that provide you with advanced knowledge in social science theory and concepts as well as in quantitative and qualitative research skills.

Our academic staff offer high-quality supervision across a wide range of areas and some of our programmes can be taken at Diploma or Certificate level before proceeding to the full Master’s level. Our programmes in philanthropic studies, developmental disabilities and child protection are offered via distance learning to accommodate working professionals.

Research students have access to office space and computing facilities and some teach part-time within the School. Our postgraduate research seminars, featuring external speakers, further broaden our students’ access to the latest research and knowledge. The School’s collaborations, for example as a member of the Eastern ARC and the South East ESRC Doctoral Training Centre, provide further opportunities for our students to network and exchange knowledge.
