Scholarship value

This scholarship provides selected undergraduate students with £5,000 per annum, paid in three termly instalments. This award can renewed for the duration of the recipients' studies (usually 3 or 4 years) subject to satisfactory academic progress.

Deadline

The deadline for this scholarship has now expired. An update for the 26/27 award will be published in due course.

Criteria

  • Open to all full-time applicants in any academic discipline who are UK residents paying Home tuition fees.
  • Applicants must have accepted a place on an undergraduate course at the University of Kent starting in September 2025 by the scholarship deadline of 30th May 2025.
  • Applicants must have applied for a tuition fee loan from Student Finance England and be able to provide evidence as a part of their scholarship application.
  • Applicants must demonstrate financial need and satisfy a range of socio-economic criteria
  • Applicants must be willing to act as an 'ambassador' for the University, their subject and faculty and attend University events when requested, if not in conflict with either course attendance or classes being in session.
  • Current students at the University of Kent are not eligible to apply.

Further details

The late Richard Tagart very kindly made arrangements during his lifetime to provide a legacy to the University of Kent in order to support undergraduate students in need throughout their studies. 

How to apply

Applicants must apply via KentVision, where they must provide a statement of no more than 500 words, describing their motivations for study at the University of Kent and how the scholarship will support their studies.

The successful applicant will be chosen on the basis of:

  • Demonstration of financial hardship (The student must have made an application for student support to Student Finance England. Student Finance England use the student’s household income to assess whether the student is eligible to receive a bursary. If the student is eligible to receive a bursary, then they will have demonstrated socio-economic need as required by the criteria of the scholarship).
  • A level results or equivalent.
  • UCAS personal statement and reference.

If your application goes to panel you may be asked to attend an online interview via Microsoft Teams (details tbc).
