Please note that the GREAT scholarship cannot be awarded in conjunction with any other scholarship.
Applicants who have applied for distance learning programmes are not eligible.
Applicants who have applied for a PCert or PDip programme are not eligible.
Applicants who have applied for a two year course, including those with a year in industry or integrated masters are not eligible.
The GREAT Scholarships programme is funded jointly by the UK Government's GREAT Britain campaign, British Council and the University of Kent, as part of the Study UK campaign.
We are delighted to offer scholarships of £10,000 to Ghanaian, Indian, Kenyan, Malaysian, Nigerian, Thai or Turkish passport holders (who are also based in Ghana, India, Kenya, Malaysia, Nigeria, Thailand or Türkiye), applying for a one year taught master's programme. The award will go towards the tuition fees.
As part of the programme, all GREAT scholars will be invited to a welcome event in the first semester and a networking event in the second semester.

Applications for the British Council GREAT scholarship should be made via your applicant portal. There is no document to upload, but you will need to press the submit button on the application to express your interest in the scholarship. You will only be able to do this once you have received an offer for your programme from the University of Kent. If you haven't applied to Kent yet, submit your application now.
Once logged in, click on the applications tab and select your submitted application. Click on the funding button. You will then see a list of scholarships that you may be eligible to apply for. You will be able to apply for the GREAT once you have received an offer. Click on Apply and follow the steps to submit your expression of interest.
Scholarships will be shortlisted based on academic achievement to date. Final decisions will also take into consideration your full programme application, including your personal statement and any references received.
Candidates will be informed of the outcome of this award by the end of June 2026. If successful, the scholarship offer must be accepted within 2 weeks of receiving the award.
The University of Kent reserves the right not to allocate the awards if the selection panel identifies no suitable candidates.
The GREAT scholarship is subject to full University of Kent Scholarship Terms and Conditions, which will be provided to successful candidates at the point of award.
