About

Dr Taymaz Azimi is a Lecturer in Philosophy who specialises in metaphysics with a focus on meta-ontology. He works within the contemporary analytic tradition with a particular (neo-)Aristotelian approach. His research is often informed by Medieval philosophy, in both Scholastic and Islamic traditions. Taymaz is also interested in areas of philosophy of language as well as political philosophy. He draws on keen interests in history, theology, and literature, both as a researcher and teacher, in order to present Philosophy in dynamic and accessible ways.

Research interests

Taymaz mostly works on issues in meta-ontology and metaphysics. Such as:

  • The theory of Degrees of Being
  • The structure of reality
  • Neo-Avicennan ontology
  • Lewisian naturalness

He is also undertaking a project of translating David Lewis’ works (at the moment a collection of his papers) into Farsi.

Teaching

Taymaz has taught metaphysics, logic, philosophy of language, and Ancient Greek philosophy. In 2025/2026 he teaches:

Taymaz is also the Course Lead for philosophy.  

Supervision

Taymaz is happy to supervise dissertations in the areas of Metaphysics, Philosophy of Language, and the History of Philosophy.
