New professor to strengthen politics at Kent

The University has appointed Dr Matthew Goodwin to a Professorship within the School of Politics and International Relations.

Dr Goodwin is known widely for his research on British politics, elections, radical right parties and his engagement with non-academic users of research.

His most recent book, Revolt on the Right, was awarded the Paddy Power Political Book of the Year (2015) and has been long listed for the Orwell Prize. Dr Goodwin was also recently awarded the Richard Rose and Communication Prizes by the Political Studies Association for his contribution to social science and the dissemination of research.

An Associate Fellow at the Royal Institute of International Affairs at Chatham House, he is also a frequent public speaker and commentator on British and European politics in print and broadcast media.

Professor Matthew GoodwinDr Goodwin has published widely, including three books, more than twenty academic articles and numerous policy reports for domestic and foreign government departments and think-tanks. He has also just been appointed as one of nine senior research fellows by the Economic and Social Research Council (ESRC) as part of its new The UK in a Changing Europe initiative. Over the next year he will be working closely on key issues that impact on the relationship between the UK and the EU.

Dr Goodwin will join the University’s School of Politics and International Relations on 1 June, from the University of Nottingham.
