Dr Tom Bennett
After completing his PhD in applied Maths at the University of Southampton in 2014, Tom spent three years teaching A-Level Maths and Further Maths at South Downs College in Portsmouth, as well as service teaching for their HND Engineering programme.
Tom joined the University in September 2017 as a Lecturer in Mathematics, teaching modules in the SMSAS foundation year and looking after various education related initiatives. He is also the school’s Student Success Lecturer, working as part of the award winning Student Success Project to improve educational outcomes and reduce attainment gaps between different groups of students.
Exponential asymptotic analysis, mathematical modelling, and the application of interesting and advanced theory to real situations. In particular, the asymptotic expansion of multidimensional complex integrals in standard steepest descent form whose phase function has degenerate critical components.
