Fundraising for Community, Welfare and the Environment

Community, Welfare and the Environment

Organisations with a mission in the community, on providing welfare or social justice support, and on preserving the environment also feature strongly in work undertaken by Craigmyle Fundraising Consultants over the years. This section highlights stories from these subject areas illustrated with examples from the Craigmyle archive collections.

Craigmyle and Community

Charities and organisations who provide help and support for people in the community, as well as environmental organisations, were a significant part of Craigmyle’s client base. Organisations that worked with Craigmyle include hospices, nursing homes, charities offering support for the homeless, youth charities, and environmental and animal charities.

Craigmyle’s archives include material ranging from a fundraising feasibility study for the Parkinson’s Disease Society, establishing a fundraising arm for the National Association of Voluntary Hostels, and a wide-ranging national campaign for the Woodland Trust.

Anastasia Trust for the Deaf (SignHealth)

Established in 1986 to address the lack of services for deaf British Sign Language users with additional needs, the Anastasia Trust (now known as SignHealth) started a capital appeal for an International Deaf Cultural Centre and residential home.

Attlee Memorial Fund

This public appeal to honour the life and interests of former Prime Minister Clement Attlee was a high profile campaign for Craigmyle requiring significant advance planning.

It launched immediately after Lord Attlee's death on the 8th October 1967.

The Woodland Trust

Craigmyle has worked with the Woodland Trust on appeals and offering advice and support for almost 40 years.

Many examples of appeal literature for the Woodland Trust are available in the archive including leaflets, posters and other direct mailings.

National Association of Youth Clubs

This 1969 campaign for the NAYC London Union includes an example of a mass produced faux 'handwritten' letter, made possible by new printing technologies. It was hoped that these printed but personal letters would prompt more donations to the appeal.
