Louis James is an Emeritus Professor at the University of Kent. He came to teach at Kent in 1965 from the University of the West Indies, Jamaica, where he had been in contact with the surge in creative Caribbean writing both in Jamaica and in and Europe. James continued to develop these contacts whilst working in Canterbury through his teaching and research, and as a result, built up this considerable collection of published Caribbean and African literature, which he gifted to the University.
The collection is catalogued.
