President of the Supreme Court to visit Kent Law School
The President of the UK Supreme Court, The Right Hon The Lord Reed of Allermuir, will be coming to Kent on Monday 15 November 2021 to meet law students and to explore the Canterbury campus.
Lord Reed accepted an invitation from Kent Law School’s Director of Lawyering Skills, Darren Weir, following the final of this year’s internal mooting competition. Kent mooters had been due to compete in person at the Supreme Court in London in April 2020, but plans were postponed due to the COVID pandemic. The moot final was eventually held before Lord Reed online, on 27 April 2021 instead.
Darren said: ‘Lord Reed, who lives in Kent, has always wanted to visit the University’s campus to have a look around and to see the fantastic facilities the Law School has to offer.’
On the day of his visit to Kent, Lord Reed will be met by the University’s Vice Chancellor, Professor Karen Cox. A guided tour of the campus will include a visit to the Wigoder Law Building which is home to Kent’s award-winning law clinic. The building also includes the Kennedy Wong Moot Court (a replica courtroom on the first floor), and training rooms for the lawyering skills programme.
Following a lunch with Law School staff, Lord Reed will take part in a ‘speed moot’ and will be answering questions from law students during a Q&A session between 17.00 – 18.00 in the Woolf Lecture Theatre (an event which will be live-streamed, with further details to follow in due course).
