Top-up degrees

Complete your Kent degree in just one year and unlock new career and study opportunities.

What is a top-up degree?

A top-up degree is a specialised university programme that allows you to convert your existing Level 5 qualification into a full Bachelor’s degree (BA or BSc), usually in just one year of additional study.

Think of a top-up degree as the final year of a standard three-year undergraduate programme. Instead of starting a degree from the beginning, you join directly at the final stage because you’ve already completed the equivalent of years 1 and 2 through:

  • A Foundation Degree (FdA or FdSc)
  • A Higher National Diploma (HND)
  • A Level 5 Diploma
  • Or another recognised Level 5 qualification in a related subject

A top-up degree is a fast, flexible, and cost-effective way to turn your existing Level 5 qualification into a full Bachelor’s degree.

It gives you the academic recognition, skills and credibility needed to progress in your education or career.

How does it work?

A top-up degree is designed to take you from where you are now to a full Bachelor’s degree in the most efficient, streamlined way possible.

  • You enter directly into the final year of a Bachelor’s programme.
  • You study advanced modules, complete industry-relevant projects, and often work on a dissertation or major assignment.
  • After successfully completing the course, you earn the same full Bachelor’s degree as someone who studied for three years.
