Corporate Communications

Press and media

The Press Office is responsible for enhancing and protecting the reputation, visibility, profile and impact of the University through effective media communications.

Work with academic Schools

The Press Office pro-actively sources news stories from academic Schools and Centres, University departments and individuals, and is a central source and first point of contact for local, regional, national and international media enquiries about the University, its research and expertise.

It positions Kent’s experts with the media, quite often in response to topical or breaking news stories, and ensures that its research outputs are distributed to as wide an audience as possible.

Work with external organisations

The Press Office also acts as as a media representative for the University with external organisations, such as funding bodies, higher education groups, local and national government departments, and emergency/security services.

Engaging with the media

The Press Office provides strategic support, including media training, direction and advice, to colleagues who wish to engage with the media. It can advise and direct academic staff in their work with the media and work with them to maximise all on- and offline opportunities.

Each academic School and many professional service departments have a dedicated Press Officer.
