If you know you’ll be applying through Clearing, preparation is key. Explore courses, gather your details and understand the process so you're ready to secure your place at Kent when Clearing opens.

If you haven't yet made an application on UCAS, or have since changed your mind and want to release from your first choice there are some key things that are helpful to know.

What is UCAS Extra?

UCAS Extra is another chance to secure your place at Kent, between 26 February and 2 July 2026. If you used all five of your choices on your original application and you’re not holding an offer, you’ll be able to add another choice using Extra. If you are preparing to enter Clearing, UCAS Extra could be a way for you to get ahead!

Our top tips for Clearing 2026

  • Get ahead - You don't have to wait for results day to find out which courses are available in Clearing. Most universities will publish their course vacancies from 5 July. You can see our courses in Clearing.
  • Do the research - Spend some time checking what's available, looking at modules, assessments and student life. It's important to enjoy where you study. Find our more about student life at Kent.
  • Be flexible - Clearing is your chance to take a new approach, so you can consider new subject areas that are similar to your initial interests, or take the opportunity to switch things up and try something new.
  • Try to relax - We know, easier said than done, but you’re not on your own. Speak to your school or college, they are there for you and will provide expert advice and support.  
  • See for yourself - Clearing isn’t a quick fix. You’re at uni for three (or more) years, so wherever you choose should give you good vibes. To get a feel for where's best for you, look out for ways to visit. If you have time, head into the local town or city too. Can you see yourself having nights out with friends, doing your weekly food shop and living your best life?
