Campus Shuttle

The last shuttle for the Spring Term will stop operating at 18:15hrs Friday 27 March 2020, for any person who requires to travel for an essential reason (as described by the Government).  The University has made the decision not to operate the shuttle during the Summer Term. If any changes this page will be updated and will be tweeted on @CampusShuttle

The University of Kent operates a free coach service between Medway and Canterbury campuses, in partnership with The Kings Ferry. This service operates 7 days a week term time only and the journey takes approximately 50 minutes.

This service is only available to University of Kent students and staff on production of a valid KentOne card (ID) or Kent Union staff card.

The shuttle service is not a wheelchair accessible service. Please contact us directly to discuss your requirements so we can arrange suitable alternative transport for you. To guarantee your time of travel please give 1 full working days’ notice.

 

 

Service timetable

From Monday 16 September there will be additional services operating to accommodate the expected increase in numbers travelling. These are highlighted in yellow within the timetable. We will be monitoring the service and if numbers of passengers decrease at any point during the year these may be removed.

Booking a seat

Follow the instructions to book a seat between Medway and Canterbury campuses. For travel between Liberty Quays, Pembroke (Medway campus) and Dockyard (Western Avenue), show your KentOne card to board is space is available. You can also catch the 191 Arriva bus for this journey.

  1. Book a seat on My Mobile Tickets from your desktop, tablet or mobile phone.
  2. Log in using your University of Kent details. The first time you register you will be asked to confirm your email and mobile number.
  3. Choose the direction of travel for your journey and press ‘Book’. Choose the date and time you wish to travel and press ‘Select’. Check your booking details and press ‘Get Ticket Now (Free)’.
  4. On your Tickets page, click ‘Show Ticket’ to access your ticket for boarding.  If you have a smartphone you can scan the ticket on your phone on the device located on the shuttle vehicle.  If you do not have a smartphone, you can download and print your ticket. Scan the printed ticket when your board the shuttle.


If you have not booked and there are spaces available, you can board with your KentOne or Kent Union card.

The route

The route used between the campuses will be to and from University Road - A290 - Thanet Way A299 - M2 (J4) - A278 - A2 - Ito Way - Pier Rd – Maritime Way- Western Avenue- Central Avenue.

The shuttle visits the stops in the following order: Keynes- Liberty Quays- Dockyard (Western Avenue)- Pembroke- Dockyard (Western Avenue)- Liberty Quays- Keynes.

Coach features

As part of the new contract The Kings Ferry are providing two new larger vehicles, one 53 seater and one 34 seater. Features of the new vehicles include Wi-Fi, USB charging points, more comfortable seats, a toilet and fold out tables on the larger vehicle.

The Wi-Fi on the Campus Shuttle vehicles has been upgraded so you can stay connected on your journey. Password: Kingsferry50

Terms of service

The service is free and only available to all University of Kent staff and students (including Kent Union). You must make sure you have a valid KentOne Card (ID card). When using this service you will automatically agree to the Campus Shuttle terms of service.
