Profile

Professor Sir Robert Worcester joined the School as Honorary Professor of Politics in 2002 and has been the Chancellor of the University of Kent since 2006. The Chairman and Founder of MORI (Market & Opinion Research International), he is the best known pollster in Britain and one of the most quoted political analysts in the world. He was made a Freeman of the City of London in 2001 and named Knight Commander of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire (KBE) in February 2005.

He is Past President of the World Association for Public Opinion Research (WAPOR), 1982-1984, and in 1996 the Dinerman Award Winner for lifetime achievement in the field. He is a Fellow of the Marketing Society, and of the Market Research Society of Great Britain and a Special Advisor to the House of Commons Treasury Select Committee. He is also Chairman of the Pilgrims Society; President of ENCAMS (Keep Britain Tidy); Vice President of the Royal Society for Nature Conservation/Wildlife Trusts, of the United Nations Association and of the European Atlantic Group; a Governor of the English-Speaking Union and of the Ditchley Foundation; a Trustee of the Magna Carta Trust and of the WWT (Wildfowl and Wetlands Trust) and a former Trustee of WWF (Worldwide Fund for Nature); a Member of the Fulbright Commission; a Non-Executive Director of Kent Messenger Group and of Maidstone Radio and is a Kent County Council appointed Kent Ambassador, on the Kent Partnership Board and the board of Locate in Kent.

Research Interests

Sir Robert is author, co-author, editor or co-editor of more than a dozen books and many articles in professional journals, newspapers and magazines. He is co-editor of the Consumer Market Research Handbook (McGraw Hill), a founding co-editor of The International Journal of Public Opinion Research  his most recent book, with Roger Mortimore, is Explaining Labour's Second Landslide (Politico's, 2001). He writes monthly columns for Profile and Parliamentary Monitor, is a frequent contributor to the Financial Times and various other newspapers and magazines and frequently appears on British, American and Canadian television and radio.
