Funding Opportunities

If you intending to take the MA by coursework or a research degree in Medieval & Early Modern Studies then you are eligible for a number of different kinds of award. Any MEMS applicant may apply for one or more of the departmental scholarships offered by our sponsoring schools: English, History, or Drama, Film & Visual Arts. Other sources of financial support for UK and EU students include the Arts and Humanities Research Council. Sources of financial support for international students include British Council and Commonwealth Awards. Please notify us at the time of application if you plan to apply for financial assistance.

Faculty PhD Top-Up Scheme

In addition to the minimum level of School support for PhD students (£500 over 3 years for full time students, pro-rata for part time / MPhil students), the Faculty of Humanities has also introduced a top-up fund to support exceptional requests for support above that level. This might be for one-off activities such as specialised training, the presentation of papers at overseas conferences, or visits to overseas archives. Applications should be made using the relevant form, which contains within it instructions on the process of decision-making. To download the form please click here.

MEMS Taught MA Studentship

Postgraduate Taught Studentship

The Centre for Medieval and Early Modern Studies (MEMS) is offering one Postgraduate Taught Studentship, funded jointly by the School of History and the School of English.  All applicants for a taught MA with MEMS are eligible.

This studentship is available to UK, EU and overseas students and will cover tuition fees at the home rate (£4,900) and a small maintenance bursary.  The studentship is worth £6,000 in total for one year only.

Selection Criteria: 

The candidates must:

1.  Hold a bachelor’s degree (First or high 2:1).
2.  Hold an offer of a place at the University of Kent.

Application Process:

To be eligible for this studentship, candidates must make a formal application for a taught MA with MEMS at the University of Kent. This can be done online via the Postgraduate Admissions web form

Candidates must also send a letter or email, stating that they would like to be considered for the MEMS Postgraduate Taught studentship, and a short CV to:

TEEME

TEEME is an international doctoral programme in early modern studies funded by the European Union. It is structured around a unique collaboration between university-based researchers in the Humanities and the cultural and creative sector in four EU countries (United Kingdom, Germany, Portugal, Czech Republic). The partnership will foster intercultural dialogue and disseminate the best research in history, literature and culture to the wider community.
