The University of Kent is committed to the creation and support of a balanced, inclusive and diverse community.


The University's Equality and Diversity Staff Team provides advice and support to staff. Our objectives include:

  • mainstreaming Equality and Diversity practices into all planning processes and functions of the University
  • promoting best practice in Equality and Diversity
  • developing and supporting the implementation of policies and procedures that promote Equality and Diversity
  • supporting staff, departments and services with projects and initiatives that promote Equality and Diversity
  • training and briefing staff on equality and diversity areas
  • ensuring the University meets and exceeds its legislative requirements

University marks International Day Against Homophobia & Transphobia (IDAHO)

23 May 2013

The University marked International Day Against Homophobia and Transphobia (IDAHO) on Friday 17 May with events that included the flying of a rainbow flag on the Templeman Library. Members of the LGBT Network were present to answer questions and provide further information.

The rainbow flag has been the international symbol for Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender (LGBT) communities and social movements around the world since the 1970s. More information

Current Issues of Equality and Diversity in Higher Education

David Ruebain Chief Executive of the Equality Challenge Unit recently attended Manager's Forum where his presentation 'Current Issues of E&D in Higher Education' was very well received and is providing a platform for extremely valuable discussion about how various parts of the University take forwards work on equality and diversity both with regards to staff and students.
