We are committed to creating a fair and inclusive environment where everyone can thrive. Our Athena SWAN Action Plan sets out the steps we are taking to promote gender equality across our institution.
Gender equality is a core part of our wider Equality, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) strategy. It is championed by our Pro Vice-Chancellor for EDI, supported by our EDI Team, our Athena SWAN Academic Lead, and guided through our EDI Governance structures.
We take an evidence-based approach to our work, regularly collecting and analysing data to inform our progress. This includes:
- Monitoring gender equality data in our annual EDI Reports
- Tracking career progression in our Athena SWAN submissions
- Publishing pay gap data in our Gender and Equality Pay Gap reports
We also offer mandatory EDI training for all staff, alongside tailored programmes to support specific groups. Our initiatives include:
- Staff networks such as the Women’s Network, Women Researchers Network, and LGBT Staff Network
- Support spaces like the Menopause Café and Carers’ Café
- Hosting the Canterbury Trans Network, providing a welcoming space for trans staff and community members
Together, these efforts reflect our ongoing commitment to fostering a gender-inclusive culture.
