Our teaching and research is designed to break down the barriers between the natural and social sciences and produce real-world impact. Our mission is to conserve biodiversity and the ecological processes that support ecosystems and people, by developing capacity and improving conservation management and policy through high-impact research.
In 2024, we received £8.3 million for research on enhancing the role of conservation areas.
In the most recent UK assessment, our work was ranked first in Geography and Environmental Studies
We received £2.2 million in 2024 for PhD studentships, to train a new generation of conservationists.
In 2019, we were awarded the Queen's Anniversary Prize for "pioneering education and research".
