Two School of Politics and International Relations professors are among a group of leading scholars appointed to provide impartial analysis on different aspects of UK-EU relations ahead of the UK referendum on membership.

Professor Richard Whitman has joined colleague Professor Matthew Goodwin as part of a ground-breaking initiative, known as The UK in a Changing Europe. They are among 16 senior research fellows appointed by the Economic and Social Research Council (ESRC).

The fellows will provide evidence and analysis across a wide range of issues facing the UK and EU, such as foreign and security policy; banking and financial services; social policies; and the impact of EU law.

Described as a ‘ground-breaking initiative’, The UK in a Changing Europe project aims to be the leading source of impartial analysis on the UK’s relationship with the EU.

Professor Whitman said the appointments were recognition of the national standing of experts in the School of Politics and International Relations.
