Acclaimed actor and Kent Drama graduate Bruce Langley, known for playing Technical Boy in the Amazon Prime series American Gods, is the special guest on the Proper Job Gradcast, hosted by Dr Oliver Double, Reader in Drama in Kent’s School of Arts.

Each Proper Job Gradcast episode features an interview with a Kent drama graduate working in the arts, discussing their careers and how they became established within the sector; from graduation to present day, and revealing how their degree helped prepare them for creative careers.

Bruce shares that after graduating 2014 with a degree in Physical Actor Training and Performance, he worked many different jobs in London, immersing himself in various acting disciplines from children’s parties to improvisation. Bruce outlines the importance of throwing yourself into different things, as it was this led him to be in contact with his current agent, who also gained him the American Gods audition 2017.

Looking back at his time at Kent, Bruce highlighted the importance of getting practical experience outside the course, saying: ‘It’s a really safe environment to fail and get experience… work out what’s working and what isn’t, and then make the improvements necessary, and go do it again consistently.’

Dr Double said of Bruce’s appearance: ‘It is a delight to see our graduates return to their academic roots and provide their valuable insights to the subject of working in the Arts sector. We’re very grateful to him for taking the time to do so and for demonstrating that there is so much to be gained in so many ways from dedication and enthusiasm for the sector and all it can provide.’
