Dr Alvise Sforza Tarabochia
Alvise Sforza Tarabochia is Senior Lecturer in Italian Studies, Head of Subjects (Philosophy, Religious Studies, Linguistics and Comparative Literature) and Director of Education for the Language Centre. He is the co-convenor of the Modern Languages Teaching Forum.
Alvise is the executive member for Italian Studies of the University Council for Languages, and a member of the editorial board of the Italian Studies Journal. He works with the Health Humanities School at the University of Trieste (Italy).
Alvise works on visual cultural studies and health humanities. He has published on continental philosophy, history of psychiatry and psychoanalysis and is currently completing a long-term research project on the history of visualisation of mental disorders.
Alvise teaches Italian at all levels, convenes the Modern Languages Project and other team-taught modern languages modules. He teaches in several team-taught modules on topics including global drug trafficking and Italian organised crime, totalitarianisms in history, Italian cinema, photography and visual culture.
Alvise welcomes PhD supervision in international visual cultural studies, medical humanities, the history of medicine and psychiatry, cultural history, contemporary Italian studies, and continental philosophy, with a particular focus on biopolitics and psychoanalysis.
