Anthony Valcke joined the Brussels School of International Studies in 2012. He served as visiting lecturer on EU migration law and legal supervisor of EU Rights Clinic at the University of Kent’s postgraduate campus in Brussels for over a decade until its closure in 2024.
Anthony has been practising as a lawyer for over 25 years. Originally qualified as a solicitor in England, he is also qualified as an avocat in Belgium and avvocato in Italy.
He has over 25 years of diverse legal experience and specialises in EU free movement, migration and nationality cases. Notable cases that he has handled include Case C-710/19 G.M.A. on the right of jobseekers before the EU Court of Justice and leading strategic litigation before the Belgian courts on proof of lawful residence in nationality cases.
He holds a PhD in comparative law, a postgraduate qualification in EU law, as well as degrees in English law and French law. He also taught at undergraduate level as adjunct professor of law at the Brussels School of Governance (Vesalius College, Vrij Universiteit Brussel).
He is currently adjunct professor of law at the Università degli studi di Palermo in Italy, where he is teaching various courses at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels. Since June 2025 he has also served as Research Supervisor at the university’s migration law clinic.
Anthony was appointed an Honorary Fellow in 2024, maintaining his long association with Kent Law School.
Anthony is the former convenor for European Union Migration Law (LAWS8321) in Brussels and the supervising solicitor for the EU Rights Clinic (DP7175).
