Choosing your modules

Choosing your modules

Find the modules that fit your studies, your interests and your time at Kent.

Build a study experience that's right for you

One of the best parts of studying at Kent is the opportunity to choose modules that match your academic interests, degree requirements and future goals.

Whether you're joining us for a term, two terms or a full academic year, you'll have access to a wide range of modules across many subject areas.

Our study abroad team will register your modules based on the choices you submit with your application, so it's important to take some time to explore your options and choose carefully.

Start exploring your options

When searching the module catalogue, you'll find information about:

  • module content and learning outcomes
  • module level and academic requirements
  • when the module is taught
  • which campus the module is based on
  • assessment methods
  • reading lists and recommended preparation
  • any prerequisites or restrictions

We recommend reviewing each module carefully before adding it to your list. Choosing modules carefully can help reduce timetable clashes and ensure your studies align with your academic goals.

Understanding modules and credits

Kent modules are organised by academic level, from Level 4 (first-year undergraduate) through to Level 7/8 (postgraduate).

We recommend choosing modules at a similar level that match your academic background.

Most short-term study students take 40 Kent credits (20 ECTS) per term, while a full academic year is worth 120 Kent credits (60 ECTS).

Before you finalise your choices

Some modules require previous study in a related subject area. If a prerequisite applies, you should have completed a similar module at your home university.

Restricted modules

A small number of modules have limited places or are reserved for students on specific degree programmes.

Please note:

  • modules ending in "X" are not available to exchange or Short-term Study students
  • Dissertation and project modules are generally unavailable

What happens next

Timetables are published shortly before the start of term and can be viewed through your Student Record after enrolment. There is no add-and-drop period, so please choose your modules carefully when applying.
