About

Lewis received a first-class BSc in Sport and Exercise Science at the University of Kent (UKC) (2020-2023). During his final year Lewis underwent a placement at Maidstone United F.C., working as their data-analyst during their National League season. During this time, he also achieved the Human Kinetic Prize for Best Dissertation on the BSc (HONS) Sport and Exercise Programme. Immediately after completing his undergraduate degree, Lewis remained at Kent to start his funded-PhD, focusing on exercise rehabilitation in Parkinson’s Disease. Lewis received funding (under the ‘Turing Scheme’) from the University of Kent for a recent 6-week research trip to Thailand, in which he visited Dr. Fuengfa Khobkhun at Mahidol University, learning about all things biomechanics and Parkinson’s Disease.

Research interests

Lewis has always been keen to work in exercise research, initially focusing on gender differences in exercise-induced pain during his undergraduate degree, moving into exercise rehabilitation in a Parkinsonian population for his PhD.

Currently within Lewis' PhD he is using biomechanical analysis to investigate:

  • Exploring the effects of medication and freezing of gait on lower-limb kinematics during activities of daily living in people with Parkinson's Disease.
  • Home-based trunk intervention training to improve axial rigidity and functionality during activities of daily living in people with Parkinson’s Disease: A randomised clinical trial.
