About

Caroline Millar holds a PhD in Text, Research as Practice from the School of English at the University of Kent. Her thesis, 'Estuarine: The Betweenness of Place', is an interdisciplinary study, exploring walking and writing practices in the post-industrial edgelands of the Thames Estuary.

Through examining edges as dynamic interactions between self and space, her research interrogates questions of marginality, stigma, displacement, and urban policy, asking what entangled encounters with the estuary can reveal about our overlooked landscapes. By developing innovative methodologies for reading and writing with edgelands—grounded in poetic place-making—her work offers fresh perspectives on revaluing and reimagining liminal spaces.

This approach has urgent relevance for contemporary debates around environmental justice, regional regeneration, and how we might inhabit and understand the inbetween places that shape our lives.
