Poetry From Around the World: Major Jackson

This is a School of English event

You are warmly invited to join our "Poetry From Around The World," reading series. We will kick off the summer semester readings on the 11th June 2020, 3-5pm GMT (Zoom link to follow). In all our sessions a featured reader will share their work alongside four students from the Kent community. From October the series will combine workshops and seminar style poetry sessions with readings from invited speakers. We hope this new series will be a space for students to discuss ideas, ways of reading and forms of writing among established poets and your Kent peers. All are welcome and if you are interested in sharing your work in a student reader slot, please email either Winsome Monica (wm238@kent.ac.uk) or Betsy (b.j.porritt@kent.ac.uk).In our first session we will be hearing from and talking to American poet Major Jackson a much sought after poet and professor. He is the author of five collections of poetry: The Absurd Man (2020), Roll Deep( 2015), Holding Company, ( 2010) and Hoops (2006), finalist for an NAACP Image Award for Outstanding Literature-Poetry, and Leaving Saturn (2002), winner of the 2000 Cave Canem Poetry Prize and finalist for a National Book Critics Award Circle. We look forward to reading with you then!
